Goji berry, also known as the wolfberry, is regarded by locals as the 'longevity fruit'. Goji berry is a good source of nutrients, including carotenoid antioxidants such as B-carotene and zeaxanthin - important in healthy eye function; flavonoid antioxidants; and betaine (an important cofactor in a number of metabolic processes). Antioxidants protect the body from the harmful effects of free radicals and oxidative damage. Antioxidants are reported to play an important part in promoting good health. Goji is a source of prebiotics called LBPs- lycium barbarum polysaccharides. These polysaccharides support the growth of beneficial bifidobacterium and lactobacillus strains, for a healthy digestive system.
